F.A.L.L……My favorite time of the year. My love for fall fashion is outta this world! I’m not sure if its the cozy chunky sweaters or the ankle booties that tickle my fancy the most, but either way they are both a must in my fall wardrobe. There’s just something about the mustard, plummy, burgundy and olive colors that my eyes just zero in on when I’m out shopping during this beautiful season. That’s probably why my closet is packed full of all things fall. Seriously though. True Story.
So, Lets jump in the leaves, I mean “Clothes”…
I wanted to bring you a few casual, cozy outfits that are great for fall. I’ve styled them with must have staple pieces that will even transition to keep you cozy in the dreadful winter as well. It will be here all to soon!
A lot of the pieces I’m including are things I personally consider staple must haves and you can probably find most of these things already hanging in your closet. I wouldn’t consider my closet as capsule wardrobe by any means but all of theses items I’m including as “must haves” have been worn year after year. I use my staples like vests, booties, denim, and chambray to create new outfits for the next season or the next fall by switching up the bottoms layers with different pieces. So keep in mind all of these pieces can be interchanged to create a whole slew of fabulous outfits.

I love LAYERING thermals under vests in the fall. I believe layering is KEY. It can be a great option especially when the temperatures like here in Northeast Tennessee have been fluctuating and sometimes that awkward temp has you not quite sure what to wear to be comfortable. Something else I love is finding fall staples for a bargain. I snagged this Knox Rose Thermal from Target at my local Bargain Hunt store but you can find similar options here and here.
Below is a Max Jeans Vest that I picked up at my local tjmaxx. You can find something similar here, here and here. It’s a must have because it’s very flowy, floppy, drappy and doesn’t have lot of structure. It’s the perfect olive color that is the best for fall. When I see olive I think of fall. You could even throw this vest on with a tee shirt dress for a more dressy or casual look.
3. Distressed Denim
Distressed denim jeans are one of my all time must have favorite pieces of clothing (I probably have a pair in every wash there is) Easily can be dressed up or down, but my main way to wear jeans are with casual weekend looks. You most always will catch me wearing denim. The ones I paired in this look are the AEO Denim X Hi- Rise Jegging from American Eagle. These jeggings are some of my favorite jeans just because they are so comfortable with lots of stretch. What I love most about these jeans is they last season to season. I don’t mind paying for good quality denim jeans. That is something I have found to be true with these.
Oh how I love booties! They are a fall essential must have that just happens to come in all different styles and colors. My latest addition to my wardrobe are these Lucky Brand Lisza Sling Back Booties. They do have the peep toe, which helps transition from summer flipflops to boots. Best of both worlds when you’re just not quite ready to put your flipflops up for the season. These booties are easily dressed up down with any outfits you choose. I have paired them with a lighter wash denim but the leather color would look even more beautiful paired with a dark wash also. Throw on a pair of riding boots and you have yourself a completely different look…
These Mossimo booties have been a staple in my wardrobe for a few years now. I just love TARGET! I’ve never met a person who hasn’t. Since they tend to have the best booties every fall season, I have to resist the temptation to buy. Can we just take a second to let me rave about how awesome this pair is…..Just so comfortable, even with the slight heel. They have never rubbed my toes since day one when I purchased them. Can I get a hallelujah? I don’t about you but when I find a pair of boots that don’t rub my toes, it makes me want to shout to the hills….. This particular pair is from a few seasons ago but you can find similar here.
5. Mixed Metal Jewelry
I paired this look with the Indie Necklace from Twisted Silver. Mixing jewelry metals in the fall is my go to. I tend to wear my more chunky pieces during the fall to create a statement with each outfit and layer them just like layering my clothing. If you want to know more about this jewelry, I recently did a full in depth review on my favorite pieces from this brand which you can check them out here. If your not a fan of necklaces and didn’t want to wear jewelry just throw on a scarf and you’re good to go.
6. Striped Tunics
I Love striped tops. You’ll see here I paired my Philosophy tunic from Tjmaxx with my smoke grey utility vest, light wash distressed denim and booties. Once again I picked up this PerSe Vest from my local tjmaxx. Maybe I should have called this post my most favorite must haves from tjmaxx and target…..Clearly I love those stores! Anyways….I could even exchange this vest out with the one in the first outfit to pair with these pieces and have a completely different outfit. That’s what I love about all of these pieces, they are so versatile. Multiple outfits with just a few staples pieces.
Below I have paired this dress with two sweater options. Have I mentioned how much I Love sweaters?? They are just so COZY! I love them any way they come. Chunky, short, long, open knit, etc. I’d say about three fourths of my wardrobe is sweaters. Don’t judge… you know you love sweaters just as much as I do… You can find a similar version here at Old Navy.
Here is another way I like to pair sweaters for a more casual look. I snagged this Abound sweater from Poshmark. I love getting good deals on new and gently used clothing when I can. You can check out my closet here. I’m always adding new items every month.
8. Chambray Shirt
This long sleeve Halogen Chambray Shirt is another versatile staple that can be layered with a olive utility vest as you see here, but you could also layer it over a tee shirt dress or tunic. It truly is a go to must have for me. I believe I have one in every color there is. You can find a similar style here.
9. Cowl Neck Chunky Sweater
This sweater is so unbelievably COZY and great to pair with a utility vest to transition to the winter weather. I snagged this sweater last season from Target, but you can find similar options here.
I hope you found something you liked and let me know in the comments below how you would pair these must haves or even your own must haves. I’d LOVE to know!
